According to the 2007 NZ Catalogue .....

2004 - Original Mintage 10,000, but actual mintage was estimated as 2,500
2005 - Original Mintage 10,00, but actual mintage was estimated as 4,000
2006 - 5,000 (doesn't give actual mintage)

I'll hopefully be getting hold of the new catalogue soon, so will give you an update then

Has 2004 got something to do with the coinage change? Maybe... I don't know.. Smiley

No, the coin changeover in NZ was in 2006. It may be that the final mintage was actually much lower than the original estimate.

In the 2008 NZ Catalogue, this is what I can find:

2004 Little Spotted Kiwi 10,000 (est 2,500) - .999 Silver (1oz) Unc $200
2005 Rowi (Kiwi) 10,000 (est 4000) - .999 Silver (1oz) Unc $125
2006 North Island Brown Kiwi 3000  - .999 Silver (1oz) Unc $150
2007 Great Spotted Kiwi 5000 (4401) .999 Silver (1oz) Unc $100
2008 Haast ToKoeka 8000.999 Silver (1oz) Unc $55

I think when there are separate mintage figures in brackets, these might be for coins that were intended for sale only in NZ.

There is an * beside each of the above entries and the footnote reads:

*NoteThe rise in the price of coins from the Kiwi themed series 2004-2007 is a recent phenomenom driven largely by interest from outside New Zealand.

Here is a quote taken from page 4 of the 2007 NZ Coin and Banknote catalogue (page 4):

IMPORTANT MINTAGE INFORMATION

After some lobbying efforts, selected figures have been released for decimal collector coins from 1993 through to 2005 showing those issues where the total number ordered from the applicable mint was LOWER than the the mintage limit set for New Zealand. It is unlikely that further coins will be minted for these issues. Besides each of the affected issues, the maximum mintage for New Zealand is given, followed by the actual number ordered in brackets. These numbers reveal significant information about how many of each issue actually exist and should be of wide interest to collectors and dealers alike - some of them very low indeed.

Also, here is a page from the RAM report for the 2004 issue: (scroll down to page 6)
