1  Worldwide Coins & Bank Notes / U.S. Coins / Wooden Nickel on: September 15, 2012, 08:28:46 PM
Any one ever see a wooden nickel? I know every one has heard the joke about "don't take any wooden nickels". My wife told one of the guys at the church about me haveing some wooden coins and she called them wooden nickels. Well the guy wanted to see one and I showed it to him and of course he said thats not a wooden nickel, and has been giveing me a hard time about it ever since. So I would really like to locate some wooden nickels to shoot him up. And if anyone knows anything about me you would know I'm into Jefferson's big time and would like to find a wooden nickel.

THE COLOR OF THE SEAL IS THE INDICATOR AS I AM TOLD....MARKED THE NORTH AFRICAN NOTES

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?  Grin Your right on the money Grin Looking in Kenneth Bressett book United States Currency he says the Yellow Seal Silver Certificates were issued in North Africa during operations there in 1942. Later they were issued briefly at the beginning of the Sicilian campaign. So now we know, we even know what year the bill was issued now.  Grin

Really nice notes, I like the old paper. What makes the 1934 A series $5 note a North African note?

That's good news, they might make their way to W.A. eventually.
Anyone see any 2009 5c yet?

Are you talking about U.S. 5c Jefferson? If you are the only ones I seen came from a mint set a friend of mine cut apart. And e-bay has them for crazy prices.

Not nearly as nice as scottishmoney's but a nice coin to have. You just don't see a lot of them. Grin

I think I heard the news man say the other day that last year we had 16 day's above 90 and this year we are already over 40 day above 90. And August is always our hot month. We almost always have very high humidity so that's no surprise. One thing we do have here in the hills is really nice mornings. Temps around 70 and heavy dew and fog. Lots of mornings when I sit out on my porch I can't see the ridge across from my house. A lot of folks are having trouble with there gradings but mine has done fair. I like to get up of a morning and sit out on the porch and just think God what a blessed people we are.  Grin  Grin

My medallion arrived today.  Grin I reckon I just never gave much thought to how big it was going to be. What a surprise when that came out of the package.  Grin It's huge.  Grin

I reckon that would depend on who you talk to. I see it used a lot. The Sheldon 70-point scale and the Official American Numismatic Association Grading Standards for U.S. Coins make no note of such a grade. So I would say no Brilliant Uncirculated is not a grade. I'm sure some would disagree.

What do you mean by "counter stamp"?   Smiley
Folks stamp different things on the bills. Like the Where's George. I know you have seen this one. I  have seen different things on them over the years and was just wondering if any one collected them.

The $2 are really nice and the Silver certificate is also.    Do you ever run across any bills with a counter stamp on them up North?
