We just returned from our favorite coin store with a new Dansco Album for Australian $2 coins.

Upon our return, we found a package in the mail from ElleKitty.  It contained 27 Australian large pennies.

So, I'll be working on two sets of coins tonight.

Special thanks to Kitty for taking the time to send me the pennies!!

CC, it isn't like I had to drive them up there to Colorado!  I just dropped them in the mail, and was glad to do so.  I'm thrilled to hear they arrived safely, though, and I hope you enjoy them!

I'll be joining you in your coining tonight though.  I received my Dansco album for Large Aussie pennies today too! Whee!

Kitty,

I may have to ask you (or one of our Australian members) for help down the road.

I currently have my McDonald's coin book loaned out, and there are three or four pennies that I can't identify as far as mint marks.

Meanwhile, I'll just plug in the ones I know.

Just have the $1 and $2 albums to fill, and my decimal sets will be up-to-date!

CC, we have found out what some of the coins and designs the Royal Australian Mint will be releasing in 2008. Hope you are putting away a few of those Presidents to pay/swap for the new issues.

The 2008 $1 mintmark coins will commemorative the centenary of the first Australian Coat of Arms 1908-1912. It will have mintmarks C, S, B and M with the S, B & M also being counterstamped at Shows on the portable press. The silver proof version will have a C mintmark instead of the usual no mintmark.

And there will be a special 50 cents to commemoratate the Centenary of Scouting in Australia.

Then there will be a second $1 Centenary of Rugby League $1

I absolutely adore the coat of arms of Australia!  It's so beautiful, especially on the fifty cent coins. Cheesy  This is a run I'm going to have to find a way to get myself.  *runs away to Downies.*

The Australian Government, like the U.S. Government, has certainly discovered what a cash cow the mint can be.

And now you see why I was running!  Wink

I want to get the Coat of Arms dollar, but I also want to get the cheap mint set and companion two coin set. Sad  I can't afford all of that right now, and not til after the Christmas Season.

How in danger are these $1 commems of selling out?

ElleKitty, the regular MM coins are usually quite plentiful. I'll be reserving some from my local dealer, so don't panic if you miss out on Downie's stock - I'll make sure I get some spares.

This is being released on 2nd January and I will be ordering a few compies from my dealer so like Tobyle if anyone wants a copy and cannot get it thru your own contacts, let me know.

It is a very nice looking coin and is a MUST have for any collector of Australian Decimal coins.

http://www.perthmint.com.au/catalogue/australian-commonwealth-coat-of-arms-1oz-silver-proof-coin.aspx

The Perth Mint has come up with a coloured silver proof version. Actually, I think I like the RAM one better - though I guess a lot of the coins do look different when you see the real thing rather than a picture.

I rather like the colours, but I refuse to pay the Perth Mint's prices! Ouch.  Shocked

I've already ordered the AlBr one for myself, and in the next month I hope to get the silver version; without the expensive colours.
