2000 and 2001 dollar coins; commemorating the Centenary of the Royal Australian Navy and the Sydney Olympics.  Nice pick ups at the show this morning for just a couple of dollars each. Smiley

Nice! I really like Australian commemoratives. Where was the show?

It was just a small show that a local coin club puts on twice a year, here in San Antonio at the Live Oak civic centre.  Today was a cold, nasty, wet day, and a lot of the dealers who originally reserved tables didn't even show up.  Although that made for a lack of variety, it did give the dealers who were there the opportunities to be a little more open with the collectors.  I got to sit and talk with some of them for a while.

My mother was with me, being my nurse and pack bearer.  Struggling along a show on crutches is rough going!  She picked up a very worn 1919 merc dime though, and some nice books on the civil war for my dad's Christmas present.

Doesn't hurt that there's a lady who sells the roasted cinnamon nuts at the civic centre every time they have a function.  She sells as much as the coin dealers do!

Ellekitty,
You've done well with those.  They're worth about AUD$30-$40 (closer to $40)for the RAN and AUD$10-$20 (closer to $20) for the Olymphilex .  The RAN has no mintmark, while the Olymphilex has a 'C' for Canberra and an 'S' for Sydney. Both come with a small cardboard folder that can be folded into 3, but is more marketable if left unfolded.

Thank you for the additional information, Yass!  None of these coins (i picked up three, there is an RA Army coin with a C mark as well that isn't pictured) came in the cardboard folder.  They are in 2x2s instead, done by either a collector or the dealer.

The Olympic coin has a mintmark?  I cannot find it anywhere.  There is edge lettering on it that reads Canberra, but as far as I can tell there is no mintmark pressed onto the face of the coin.

Yes the other has Sydney on the edge lettering.

Very interesting. You're too kind to keep coming up with this information for us.

I do wish these dollars had come in the folders, but alas they did not.  I know I have the Army one in a folder, as a trade with I think t'was Ms. Tobyle.

The Navy and Olympic ones were new to me completely, and I don't think I've ever seen the Airforce one available here. Smiley
