It's a real shame the US doesn't go back to a modified version of some of the earlier banknotes.  They really were a work of art.

I used to have all the 1899 notes and my favorite th 1901 Lewis and Clark and the BUFFALO. I was so proud of them I had them framed and matted and put them on display at my local coin shop a few years ago. Lets see they were there the same night he got broken into and most of his inventory stolen. They took the time to remove my notes from the frame before leaving is shop! I was just sick and swore to replace them but then found they had doubled in retail value so I have no old notes prior to 1928 any longer. At least I can say I USED to own one of each! One can't help but love the artistic abilities and the tremendous effort put into those old notes. Another era gone forever?

Wow, Terry, that's awful  :(

My collection of U.S. currency is growing slowly, and thinking about the value I have so far, I decided to put them in the safe deposit box tomorrow. I can still enjoy them "virtually" through my photos  :)

Tom, That's a very nice banknote.

My collection is tiny, but I'm always on the look out for something I can afford.

 :) :) :) :)

Thanks  :) And I know what you mean. The vast majority of the circulated large size U.S. notes I saw at the show were worn and discolored so much that you just wouldn't want one in your collection. And the UNC ones ... well, the prices are in the stratosphere !!!

Well its off to Ebay to see if the Black Eagles are still soaring or if they have landed a bit! The old large notes command a hefty premium but I have manage to steal one on Ebay on occasson at a price a poor man can pay!

Twoshadows, sorry to hear about the terrible bad luck of losing your banknotes. Those are very beautifull.

Did you keep a copy of the serial numbers? Or a photo of the framed article, which might show the serail numbers?  Given that they are going up in value, I would suggest you keep an eye out on ebay and auction catalogues.  I don't know the law in the US, but in Australia you still own the item and claim it back if you happen to see it.  The person who currently has the note/s has to give them back, regardless og how they came about them, legitamately or otherwise.  I don't believe the is a statute of limitations either.

Well Yass I would like to say I was smart enough to do so but it never entered my mind until after the theft. Local police said they suspected the coins and notes were fenced in St.Louis, Missouri within hours of the robbery. I have kicked my self a hundred times for not logging the serial numbers and taking a photo but, when the time goes, I will put another one together and do it right this time. I am just trying to figure out how to put the explosive charge in the frame? As you can see I have no love for a liar or a thief. In most cases if you can find one, you have found the other!

Stealing collections is about as low as a person can get.

Many, many years ago I took my Presidential campaign items to school.  Someone got into my classroom and ripped several pins out of my frame.  One which was taken was a James A. Garfield pin.  I have never been able to replace it.
