Hi CC,
The albums have places for 78 coins, but there is over 100 if you consider that there are varieties, and many many more when errors are considered. The 1943I for example you were asking about has 2 varieties, one with short reverse denticles and one with long. They both have the I under the Kings neck and show the dot penny dot on the reverse. Check HERE for some more information and pictures of the appropriate obverse and reverse dies. Cheers and enjoy.

Your doing nicely Rusty.

When the time comes, the 1926P is going to hurt in Unc. At least it's not as bad as the 1926S.

LOL. It will be like the saying   " This won't hurt, Did it?"    I see the 1925 and 1927 Perth issues are getting up there in UNC as well. I might have to talk to the friendly bank manager.  Grin  Cheers.

Here are the last 2 I received with 2 more coming. Both are UNC. Cheers.

5  Worldwide Coins & Bank Notes / Australian Coins / Re: Sets Completed!! on: December 12, 2007, 03:04:16 AM
I just now placed the last coin in the Two Cent Dansco Album, and can now state I have pretty well completed my Australian decimal coin sets.

Sets completed:

One Cent
Two Cent
Five Cent
10 Cent
20 Cent
50 Cent

As happy as I am with these completed sets, I do regret that none of the coins were found by myself.

Fine folks from Australia, such as humpybong, Muckeye, Triggersmob, Nevol, and especially Gregk, made this possible, and I appreciate them very much.

A majority of my United States sets are filled with coins I found, and I also found many of the coins which reside in my Canadian albums.

Regardless, I love my Aussie coins, and will share them with family and friends.

Now, to get to work on those pre-decimal pennies!!

 Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

Congrats CC on the finished sets. Now to make it interesting you could collect the varieties that exists.  Grin I have started on these and it is not an easy task I can say, especially to try and get most of them in UNC. I have yet to finish a variety set. Cheers.

Hi All,
I have been away for a days. To add to what Sap wrote, the Perth Sovereigns ran from 1899 to 1931, making 33 the numer of them to get. There are some rarer (more expensive) dates; 1899, 1925, 1926 and 1927. Most of the others range from $350 to $500 AU in price for an UNC coin. A full set in UNC would cost around $21,000 AU. A lesser grade will be cheaper but, if available, UNC is what I am aiming for and it will take a while to get. F, VF, EF and aUNC are listed at bullion price plus 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% as applicable for a large percentage of the years.

Hermit, that is a very nice coin you have there. Cheers.

Following are pics (excuse the quality please) of the first 2 for my Perth Mint collection of these coins. I am aiming for a set of coins at least UNC in grade and realise that some of them are expensive. Cheers.

Hi,
It is a bit harder to tell with the coin laying down on an angle, but that one looks like the more common 1943I using the later Bombay reverse die. Some of the early coins still had the dot penny dot and the I on the obverse under the King's neck, but the reverse denticles were longer than the normal coin. The long denticle variety is the scarcer type. Cheers.

ps  Check out this site below for information on Aussie pre-decimals. The links to die-pairs etc are about 2/3rds the way down the page.

108 would seem to be the correct number up to the end of 2007. Check http://knightsofthecointable.com/membersforum/index.php?topic=201.0 for pictures of my own set. I have a MYO 2007 coin in there which is being removed to go into a MYO album. Cheers.
