Welcome to a stroll down memory lane...
Looks a lot different, HUH?
Title: 1933/2 overdate penny? Post by: KurtS on October 18, 2008, 05:07:38 AM I just noticed this unattributed coin on auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370097577816), and thought it would make an interesting discussion. Enlarged auction pic is below--what do you think? ??? Just posted out of curiosity--I won't bid because the coin appears polished. :'(

Title: Re: 1933/2 overdate penny? Post by: KurtS on October 18, 2008, 05:35:55 AM Thanks for that, and my Maccas lists $80 in F, $150 in VF. Of course, a price isn't listed for "polished" :D
I have since gotten confirmation from an Aussie collector this is the 1933/2. Title: Re: 1933/2 overdate penny? Post by: scottishmoney on October 18, 2008, 08:06:32 AM I have one of these, but mine is not polished like the image above. I knew they were a bit scarce, but I had no idea on the price. BTW I have several hundred Australian pennies, I bought them when the A$ was low and shipping halfway around the world was inexpensive. They all date from 1912-1964, numerous dates, mintmarks etc.
Oz pennies are one of the most fascinating collecting areas around so much variety with mints, dates etc. Title: Re: 1933/2 overdate penny? Post by: KurtS on October 18, 2008, 10:31:14 AM Congrats on the getting the 1933/2--I hope you found it. That's my favorite aspect of collecting.
And I agree--there's quite a few varieties in the 1d and 1/2d series...it's at least as interesting as Indian Cent varieties. Good luck on your cache of pennies. |
