2008 marks the centenary of the signing of the Quarantine Act in 1908 - the legislation that provided the basis for human, plant and animal quarantine in Australia.
The Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS) detector dog (the beagle) is depicted as being on-duty, protecting Australia from pests and diseases by detecting food, plants, animals and their products in passengers bags. Our nation is represented in a luggage shape with travel/luggage stickers identifying the key hazard and protection issues for AQIS.
