The negotiations for a trade on another forum have been going really strangely. Something about the guy who is trying to trade with me just ain't right. I don't think he's a bad guy. I just don't think he knows anything about coins, which makes trying to come to a deal kinda difficult. Anyway, am I going blind??? I'm 99% sure this mint mark is an S. This guy insists its a D. What do you guys think???
Thanks for looking.

I don't know what you are looking at but all is see is a D without a doubt? I must assume that is a 1921 Morgan so the value of the D and S mint marks are basically the same? The mint mark is located right below the wreath and directly above the D and O in dollar and I see a Denver mint mark in that location. But one must remember my old eyes aren't as good as they used to be!!! Grin

I know what your talking about. But I see an S, theres just a shadow or something over the top of it. It almost looks like its been altered. The reason its kind of important is that I already have a 1921-D.

Looking at it under a magnifying glass it could be an S, there does seem to be a shadow or something over the top.

Yeah, thats what I'm talking about. I tried to blow up the photo and zoom in on the mint mark, but when I tried to save it, it just showed up as the original normal sized photo. I can certainly see how you could see a D, but that D just doesn't look right to me.
But the problem is kinda solved. I found another guy on that forum who wants to make the trade, so I put them in touch with each other. I'm still interested to see hwat others think about this mint mark though.

Hi AdamL,

The first thing I saw was an "S", but the more I stared at it, the more confusing it became!
It is possible it's a "D", but my honest opinion would have to be "S".     Smiley Smiley Smiley  Smiley Smiley

After putting a magnifying glass in front of the image, I see a D when looking from the left, and an S when looking from the right! Can anyone put up an image of same coin with the D MM - I'm not sure what the D is meant to look like.

I saved the image to my files and then blew it up to 200%.
It goes a bit blurry, but does look like a "S".

Admittedly it is confusing, the MM's on the 1921's are notoriously small.  I would ask for a close up image of the MM.  Or not worry about it because 1921's are basically just bullion coins anyway.

It looks like a repunched D to me. Did Morgans have RPMs?

I see the 'D', but after reading all the posts above, I'm seeing an 'S' as well as a pink elephant, and Elvis...........

Here is what I seen when I zoomed in and enhance the mark. Looks like an S to me... Maybe I'm seeing things.

Your seeing the exact same thing I'm seeing TKO. I really think its is an S, or an RPM, although I don't really know anything about RPM's Tongue
When I look at it as a D, it really does not look like the right size and shape for a D mint mark. But the S seems to be just right, besides the fact that its so dark on the top part of the S.

True. But, I was interested in this one because it looks like a pretty nice coin, and I wouldn't mind adding a 1921-S, because I already have a D. But since it seems so uncertain, and the guy who actually has the coin insists its a D, I've put him in touch with someone else who is interested in making the trade.
