Nice Coins Sir AdamL:
In my opinion, Walking Liberty is the most beautiful coin in U.S.Series.   I have completed a Set Of Walking Liberty Halves in Dansco album and few are slabed.

Don't you ponder whence you gaze upon such lovely coins, what the world happened?  Why are our current coins so fugly?

Becuase they are graced with dead politicians? There is NO art nor beauty to our circulating coinage. Our commemorative program doesn't go much farther as it is a politically based program laced with greed. The finished products, most of the time, fail to generate interests or income due to their lackluster designs. Seems to me, sooner or later, someone at the Mint and the government might figure that out?

Tells me that the country has gone to hell in a handbasket when we worship as demi-gods on our money.  Damned Teddy Roosevelt for ever commissioning these lovely designs from Adolf Weinman and Augustus St. Gaudens in the first place.  Of all the pickled corpses on the coins, only Abraham Lincoln is anywhere close to deserving of the honour, Kennedy, Roosevelt, etc. were not.  When Liberty leaves the coinage, be concerned.

Thanks Sir George. I've been working on the set for well over two years, and I've still got a long way to go.



...It is a shame to not see any beauty on our coins anymore. I think most non-collectors have no idea what we're missing out on.

With all the modern technology we have surrounded ourselves with the world truly has grown smaller.  A click of the mouse can put you in most countries of the world. Probably the single largest growing segment of numismatics is world wide collecting as it is so easy now. At this point in time ALL coinage, regardless where you may live, should tell something about your country. Art, culture, wildlife, natural wonders, ect......! The U.S. is failing miserably by continuing their dead politicians on both coinage and paper notes. I still believe we should remove the Presidents from our coinage (retain them on the paper notes if need be) and use our coinage as little billboards that will travel the world showing what we REALLY have to offer in this nation. While I am fully aware this is NOT going to happen I can repeat it and still feel the shame in what we are doing with our coinage potential.

HOWEVER, I notice that you are missing the most important date -- 1942.

That's when I was born!!

I do have a 1942 BU Walking Liberty in an airtite.  One of my favorite coins.

I have started to collect a set, but really doubt I will complete it.

At the moment I am trying to get together a typeset of US one dollar coins.....but halves may be next on my list.

Kennedy coin has brought me into this hobby of wonderful people.
Kennedy Half is the most popular coin collected all around the world.
Next to the Kennedy Half,
State Quarters and Presidential Dollars are eagerly collected ones, AROUND THE WORLD.  (Ms.Dona Pope's directorship, U.S.Coins were over priced.  In Secondary Market the same coins were available for 40% or more DISCOUNT OF MINT'S ISSUE PRICE. If I remember correct, one can buy the Prestige Proof Set, even now, below the mint's issue price)) They are not costly.   Any one can assemble a set of P.D., Mints, like me.
My good friend Marek has told me that
THEY ARE HISTORY BOOKS OF U.S.
Regarding more and more beautiful coins, there is Committee on New Coins which advice U.S.Mint on new issue of coins.
If all our friends tell them, we need more beatiful coins, eventually, we can see them.   Even sample designs etc., may also be sent to them.
Again, I love the Ste. Qrs. and Prez. Dollar...ofcourse, I can't afford to other high quality coins.

I'm pretty sure I've got one or two 1942's in my album Unfortunately my brother went back home to Alabama and took his camera with him, so all I can egt are scans. I may track that one down and scan it anyway though.

George, Interesting you would mention the popularity of the Kennedy Half, around the world, because it is also my favorite coin!

AdamL, I tend to collect any coins minted in 1942.  I also watch for the birth date coins of our three kids -- 1967, 1971, 1972 -- because I think one day they will be happy to have them.
