Well Paint Your Wagon we have at least one thing in common. I don't like toning either. As you said, toning is damage, regardless of the extent of it and it can only get worse! Never better!

I absolutely love the Netherlands silver bullion coins that are produced each year. The design changes as the KNIGHT on the obverse is from one of their Provinces (I believe they call them provinces) every year. I sure do favor those KNIGHTS for some reason or another but they are a bit pricey in my mind but ALL silver from the world's mints are pricey now!!!

In Europe silver is a consumer product with every country having a value added tax VAT of between 17 and 22%

Part of the problem is the fact Ebay will let a seller PAY to advertise in more than one area. Coins could be listed under the proper country, gold or silver, bullion, relics, antiquities and so on. It makes Ebay money but they then MUST have that auction appear under those lists even if WE do not wish to see it.
Another problem I am having, just as you are, is the mere fact sellers have learned ways to figure out how to NOT sell if they don't get the desired price. Just this week a seller, whom I had won an auction for a glider (plane) for my little boy, notified me he would be refunding my money immediately as most of his shipment was damaged. My answer to that was bull ____! You can't tell me he did not inspect the contents when they were delivered? The fact of the matter, after checking his other auctions for the same plane, was I got a heck of a deal on the auction I won as it was far below his "Buy it Now" price on the same item. Also my auction was offered with FREE SHIPPING so the seller would not make squat. He cancelled because he could and it is as simple as that.
I have had dealers in the past, who lost big money, simply tell me the coin was lost or it would be weeks before it could be located as they were moving into a new building. Yeah right! I insisted on waiting and made that dealer send me the $60 coin I bought for $12. I can play the game just like they do!

I bought Friedberg goldcoins of the world for half the price and the book got lost in the mail and I was offered a refund
I started an ebay complaint and said I would up it to a paypal complaint in seven days
After two days the professional store said the book was returned to them by the postoffice because some date was wrong
Three days later I got the book and as suspected apart from the printed postage stamp there was no date whatsoever

I have been told by persons that have done it that if you offer 500 euro outside of ebay for a coin worth 500 euro and you can pick up the item
it suddenly gets delisted with no cost to the vendor and no risk to the buyer
Unfortunately I am not going to drive to germany for a coin but between all the crap I have to look at and damaged goods and cheap purchases getting refunded , I am quitting in a few months when goldprices are probably going to explode

This is one of those days I may like ebay
I just got a gold maja desnuda from an innocent german hausfrau for 17% below melt because it is a medal and germans do not like medals any more ( The was a time that a uniform and a medal were the highest aspiration )
Now I just have to wait and see wheather the medal is actually going to reach me .
