Title: Roman coin, real or fake? Post by: triggersmob on August 19, 2009, 06:25:54 PM A friend of mine just came back from England. She visited Bath and bought this coin for me.
I'm concerned about the letters stamped in to it, so I was wondering if it is real or fake. It almost sounds plastic when you drop it on the table top, but it weighs heavier than plastic. Weight is 12.44g, diameter is 28mm. And it's not really trying to pretend otherwise, either. "WRL" are the initials for Westair Reproductions Limited, whose reproduction ancient and mediaeval coins can be found for sale at many history-themed tourist traps in Britain.

I have a few Roman coins -- very few --and they are most interesting. We were at Bath a few summers back, but I don't remember the "coins" being for sale.
