Steve, is this piece of paper you show very small in size, like about 1-1/2" X 1" or so? If it is, it is probably a coupon from a bond. Using the Google translator, some phrases I typed in German came out something like this:  Six month interest rates payable; National Debt Office; Promisorry note; Bond of the German Empire.  I wish I knew German a little better. But I think it is some sort of bond coupon. Hope this helps.   Smiley

It is 4" x 1 1/2"

Can either of you guys tell me what this is?

Steve...have sent a copy to a friend of mine (Dutch) who can read German.   Hope he can translate this for you.  Problem is he is due to fly to Europe in a week so not sure if he will have time.

Sorry I do not look at paper and only saw the question today

It is a coupon of a bond of 100 000 Dmark ( row 1 number 6)
Bondseries A
The coupon is worth 2000 Dmark  as a sixmonthy interest payment due novembre 1st 1928
The coupon would be no longer valid if a corner had been cut off
The coupon validity expired 31 st decembre 1932
Issued by the State debt department 1 st dec 1922 Berlin
( 2 Ausgabe = second emission )

I presume the coupon was never collected ?
I also presume since this is coupon 6 and sixmonthly  the interest payments only started in
1926
So looks like 4% interest with delayed payment and someone missed the collection date

The bottom document is a check drawn on a savings and loan bank

The top paper is an emergency note of 80 heller issued by the village of Hinterbruhl in the
name of the city fathers to alleviate the acute shortage of small money ( Kleingeldnot)
The village is close to Vienna

That is the right size for those large scissors you get in the bankvault
( My grandfather took me for the ceremony of coupon cutting since it is utterly boring : except with that money he took me and my grandmother on seevacations every year  )

Hinterbruhl has only one Hostelet left
I did not realise it was in the Salzburg region which is now touristical
There is still an hotel called Radetzky in another village but that means nothing
since the Strauss composers wrote the very famous Radetzky march which is
played by the Wiener Philharmoniker Orchestra every new years concert . I think he
was a general .
