These coins are so nice, it seems a shame to lock them away in 2x2's.
We need to be able to handle them.

I don't have any gold coins. I was under the impression that
Sovereigns were big coins, how wrong was I. Only 8 grams.

The Western Australian coin from the Federation series is the best one, but then I am biased...

I also like the Ram's head coin...

I also have a nice proof one...

A "double bar" variety exists in 1979 and 1980.

75  Worldwide Coins & Bank Notes / Australian Coins / Re: SAS $1 on: September 09, 2010, 07:26:07 PM
Amr, this coin is not part of a series, it is a single release.
I attended the release at the Campbell barracks in Perth,
the home of the S.A.S. Only 10,000 coins where minted.
2500 for members of the S.A.S. and honoured guests and
7500 for general public.

The coin's reverse depicts SAS soldiers in action in a variety of
operational contexts. The design, which includes coloured
elements and the words AUSTRALIAN SAS 1957-2007, also
portrays the SAS badge.

The coin's obverse depicts Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.

Silver Content...........................1troy ounce.
Monetary denomination ...........$1
Fineness (%purity)...................99.9
Minimum gross weight..............31.135g
Maximum diameter...................40.60mm
Maximum thickness..................4.00mm

Minted at The Perth Mint.
