Great Britain, 1758-1844

A grouping of coins that I purchased from fellow forum member Numismatty. (Thanks again!)

An 1844 Half Farthing of Queen Victoria.  From a time when a penny was still worth something, if they divided it into 1/8s!


A silver Maundy Tuppence of 1839, Queen Victoria.  I have threepence and fourpence, but no single pences in Maundy money; I'd love to put a whole set together someday.


1836, King William IIII silver fourpence. (This one has a mate waiting for it to arrive; Queen Victoria, 1846.)


King George II, silver shilling of 1758.  I know this one should go into the 1700s forum, but I didn't want it to be all lonely there by itself.  It's part of this purchase.


The Crowning Glory- King George IV silver shilling of 1826, destined to become part of my CatCollection of Coins. 


This purchase was very recent, so the coins are still in the post on the way from the UK.  Once I receive them, I will take some newer photos of them, as these were just the advertisements Matt took quickly when interest was expressed.  Thanks again!

Take a close look at the "E" in REGINA. This is the E/N variety.



Yours appears to be a different obverse die, but I did notice a similar die break off the F in Farthing

Mr. Erik, I promise that if you stay with coin collecting, you will most definitely have similar coins in your collection.  I can remember saying the same thing when I started twenty five years ago, and I still say the same thing when I see beautiful coins posted by other collectors. 

Mr. Kurt, that's a beautiful specimen!  I don't think the one I have coming is a variety of anything, but I shall definitely take a close look at it once it arrives.

Very nice coins, Miss Kitty! I try to collect at least one coin from each British monarch. I've gotten as far back as James I. Although one type denomination I do not have in my collection is a 4 pence. Your 1836 is just wonderful! By the way: HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!

I, of course, can't say that. But at least I have seen all of those (exculding only the 1700s one). Lovely small coins!

*Laughs*  Yes Mr. Matty, you did indeed have some -very- like that.   (for those of you not in on the joke, I bought them from him.)

I have been told that these coins are rather commonly found, although that diminishes my joy in having them not at all.  The sense of history they have, and the fact that I didn't have some of the denominations at all make them an excellent addition to my growing collection of older coins.  After all, what good is a library without the classics?
