I buy the Canadian 25 cent pieces for my son and I and a couple of collectors in Europe so I am always looking for at least 5 of them in unc. Let me know what you find out!
I received word that Canada has release yet another Olympic 25 cent piece for 2007. This one commemorates "Down Hill Skiing" if my information is correct. I have really been impressed with a couple of the 2007 designs so I am anxious to see this one as well. I believe this is the fifth and last to be released this year?
I collect proof MOB of ROOS and the Australian Mint has failed me miserably the last few years with all those commemoratives. If nothing else they could at least make just ONE each year and send it over to me? (yeah, when pigs fly) Actually that would be a very noble gesture on behalf of the Aussie government for all the stimulating I do for their economy. I may have to write the Queen of Australia a letter on this matter!!! Snooba, are you still the Queen? I will have to check my dates to see what proofs I still lack but, boy oh boy, those proof Roos really do look purty up here in Indiana! If it has a Roo it belongs in my herd!
And we don't want to forget the buffalo played a major part in the expansion west not to mention it was used as a weapon of war which almost put them on the extinction list! I will agree it has been more than interesting seeing just what it takes to make the grade in many states and who does indeed wield the sword of power (in the form of money and lobbying) in those states! Sure a lot went on behind the scenes in many a state office building!
Now Greg have you given the Indiana Indy race car a real good look? The pioneers were racing through Indiana to get to all that gold out west and only the ones who did not have a pit crew in Indiana got stuck here! Tons of real pioneer history in that coin! And I might add the U.S. Mnt program would not allow a basketball image, as Indiana is well known for its pioneer basketball played by the pioneers whose race cars broke down here, so they had the image removed from consideration as it was considered Sports? The U.S. Mint also would NOT allow a private business image to be used in the program so could some one please tell me HOW DID INDIANA end up with a race car (sports event) from a private owned business on their quarter? Did the Governor, at the time, sell us out or just sell us short? The old saying "Money Talks" is more than evident here?
If those folks had any idea what U.S Trade Dollars would be worth to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren they would have been more careful about what they chopped!!! One thing is for certain you know the coin has been around the world!
I could live with all 3 coins AuldFartte. Most of the early cents show a lot of use but that brings out the personality of the coin and the understanding that was a LOT of money back then and it would definitely buy something. Those old used coins can really spark the imagination if you know what I mean! Who do you think spent that cent the first time out of the mint? Those cents were the workhorses of their time! As for the gold and silver? There is no such thing as bad gold and silver but some are in nicer condition than others.
I used to have all the 1899 notes and my favorite th 1901 Lewis and Clark and the BUFFALO. I was so proud of them I had them framed and matted and put them on display at my local coin shop a few years ago. Lets see they were there the same night he got broken into and most of his inventory stolen. They took the time to remove my notes from the frame before leaving is shop! I was just sick and swore to replace them but then found they had doubled in retail value so I have no old notes prior to 1928 any longer. At least I can say I USED to own one of each! One can't help but love the artistic abilities and the tremendous effort put into those old notes. Another era gone forever?
Banknote collecting has never been a stong point in my collecting career but I guess I was missing the boat or had the wrong frame of mind concerning paper money? I did search for a few Netherland notes in the past few years due to the artist renditions but now you have opened up a whole new world of possibilities! Thanks for sharing your beauties with us!
I find this particular note absolutely amazing. The world has an opportunity to share so much with their banknotes and coinage and most countries today fail miserably to do so. This is definitely a "must have" note!
