Pocketcoins, Australia Day is when we celebrate the landing of the First Fleet in 1788. Some Aboriginal Australians call it invasion day.
Gary, thanks. These are photos not scans though. Come on Gary, do it today. Today is as good as any day.
Nighthawk, thank you.

On the 26th of January 1788, a fleet of British ships laden with convicts made landfall in Sydney Cove, founding the penal colony of New South Wales - the first permanent European settlement in Australia.
It is celebrated as out national day - the equivalent of your Independence Day (July 4th).

The day the prisoners landed in Australia is Independence Day. Reminds of of the prisoners in New Hampshire jails, who make license plates with the state motto: "Live Free or Die".

Happy Australia Day to all our friends in OZ!!! We have something similar up here. From the first landing we have let all of our convicts run the government. Saves the taxpayers a ton of money running the prison system!
