If I remember correctly just a few short years ago Old Dan and I tried to open two museums. One in the mid-west (Indiana) and one in Wyoming (west) which would have paid tribute to the history of the outhouse and the role they played in developing our nation. Where would we be without them?  Needless to say we could not get the government grants we requested as all the taxpayers money was being used to finance pork barrel poo-poo which for the most part never benefits the taxpayers but does make some rich fellows very proud of what we the taxpayers have done for their communities. Apparently some government bureaucrat thought our idea was pretty crappy! The world had an opportunity to not only have first class outhouse museums but also rest areas that would have actually been useable working models. I could just see the highway billboards for this attraction!!! So many great ideas and so little time! While we stumbled and fell on this dream I do believe Old Dan was the one selling toilet seats to the military for $700.00? Grin

Years ago, while on a bicycle tour of Indiana, we passed through a small town whose only claim to fame was the "Last two story outhouse in Indiana."  I see that Old Dan and his fellow historians have managed to save one out west? I suppose the upstairs was reserved for the rich? Wink

MAYBE THEY WERE BUILT LIKE THAT BECAUSE OF DRIFTING SNOW.......IN THE UPPER PART OF MICHIGAN MANY HOUSES HAVE A DOOR ON THE SECOND FLOOR BUT NO STAIRS---IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY YOU COULD GET OUT BY STEPPING OUT THE SECOND STORY DOOR--

How many of you have ever seen one of these?
Note: When you are in the lower level and hear someone
enter the upper level, it's is a  little unnerving to say the least

I have heard of such things but never really believed they actually existed. When some of the folks were going off to the city they would wright back home about having 4 room and a bath, and my dad would say I would rather have my 2 rooms and a path.  Grin
